Oregon Approves Extension of Spring Salmon Season by Bill Monroe The Oregonian, May 20, 2026

Anglers could be busy this Memorial Day weekend with a last-minute
move to open up the Columbia River for spring salmon fishing.

Oregon and Washington fish managers ensured a memorable and uniformly long Memorial Day weekend by extending the spring chinook salmon season on the Columbia River.

Fishing will reopen from Friday morning through Monday evening, from Tongue Point at Astoria all the way to the states' shared border upriver from McNary Dam.

All previously adopted regulations and bag limits remain in effect (two hatchery salmon or steelhead daily, but only one may be a chinook).

Biologists noted that the annual decline in run numbers at Bonneville Dam was earlier than usual, but enough uncaught adult fish remain from preseason allocations to allow additional fishing.

Catch results have varied widely throughout the expanded area.
