Columbia River Anglers will Get 6 More Spring Chinook Fishing Days After Count Prompts Extension by Bill Monroe The Oregonian, May 12, 2026

Salmon anglers will get six more days of spring chinook fishing in the lower Columbia River and five more days upriver from Bonneville Dam.

Oregon and Washington managers met Tuesday following a spring run update based on numbers counted over the dam so far.

They'll reopen the lower river (deadlines below the dam are Beacon Rock from boats and bank only from Beacon Rock to the dam) Friday through Sunday and again Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25.

From the dam upriver to the Washington/Oregon state line, fishing will reopen Friday through Sunday and again Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24.

Biologists will now update the run regularly.

While lower river anglers have only caught approximately two-thirds of their allocation, managers are proceeding cautiously as the lower river opens Saturday to hatchery summer steelhead.

All previous regulations remain in effect, with one adult hatchery chinook salmon allowed daily.
