Columbia River Spring Sport Fishing Season is Extended by Bill Monroe The Oregonian, May 20, 2025

Buoyed by a stronger spring chinook salmon run than expected, managers in Oregon and Washington met Tuesday afternoon and extended sport fishing well into June both below and above Bonneville Dam.

Rather than close Thursday, fishing will now be allowed through June 12 below the dam and will be open Thursday through June 15 from Tower power lines (six miles downriver from The Dalles Dam) upriver to the Oregon/Washington state line through June 15.

With the spring run more than half over at Bonneville Dam, biologists increased their run estimate from the pre-season forecast of 122,500 to 155,500.

All salmon crossing the dam from mid-June through July are considered summer chinook and the states have already said that run is forecast to be too low to allow any fishing.
