U.S. Seeks Firms to Refurbish Thrust Bearing Shoes
at 810-MW Lower Monumental, 603-MW Ice Harbor Dams

Lower Monumental dam on the Lower Snake River in the remote southeast of Washington State. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms able to refurbish thrust bearing shoes at 810-MW Lower Monumental and 603-MW Ice Harbor dams on the Snake River in Washington. Responses are due May 23.

The Corps' Walla Walla District took bids in April to supply new draft tube and scroll case personnel hoist systems at Monumental and Ice Harbor. It took information May 2 on firms able to perform generator rewinds and turbine cavitation repairs at Lower Monumental and took bids in January to modify a spillway to improve fish passage at Ice Harbor.

In a sources sought notice, the Walla Walla District now seeks information on firms able to inspect and refurbish General Electric thrust bearing shoes at the two projects. Responses are to help it determine the type of solicitation to be issued.

The contractor is to inspect and refurbish one set of 12 shoes at each project by removing existing babbitt, pouring new babbitt, machining babbitt including provision of oil supply grooves and machining of the shoe backside.
