E. Idaho to Get More Wind Turbines After PUC Deal by Associated Press Boston Globe, December 22, 2011

BOISE, Idaho -- Eastern Idaho could see more wind turbines after a deal struck between an energy developer, a big regional utility and Idaho regulators.

Utah-based developer Cedar Creek Wind on Wednesday was tentatively cleared to erect turbines totaling about 120 megawatts in Bonneville County.

The company had been feuding with Rocky Mountain Power and the Idaho Public Utilities Commission since last year, because the utility didn't want the wind energy and regulators agreed it shouldn't have to buy it.

But officials at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission intervened, deciding the commissioners had overstepped their bounds.

Subsequent negotiations between Cedar Creek, the PUC and Rocky Mountain Power resulted in Wednesday's deal.

Cedar Creek originally wanted to build in neighboring Bingham County, but there's better-quality wind at the Bonneville County site to produce power.
