Dispute Settled Between Idaho Power
and Wind, Geothermal Generators

by Associated Press

BOISE -- State regulators have ordered compromise resolutions to disputes between the state's largest utility and small-scale wind and geothermal power generators.

In split decisions, the Public Utilities Commission has tempered proposals by Idaho Power to limit what it pays to wind and geothermal generators for the electricity they produce.

The commission is allowing some reduction in cases when the small generators either produce significantly more or less than they promised in their contracts.

Idaho Power says when it doesn't get what it counted on, it has to pay more on the wholesale market to bridge the gap.

And when it gets too much it has to sell it on the open market -- at times for a loss.
