Energy Northwest is planning to spend 30 to 50 million dollars over the next five years to improve safety at the Columbia Generating Station.
After the earthquake and nuclear disaster in Japan last year, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is asking all U.S. nuclear facilities, including Energy Northwest, to re-examine siesmic and flooding safety features at the plant.
Energy Northwest told us today, the nuclear facility is safe from a similiar event to Japan, but they will be reviewing safety and possibly adding equipment and other safety features.
