BOISE -- Idaho's rivers are alive with millions of young salmon and steelhead trout from Idaho Power Company hatcheries.
The utility is releasing three-point-eight million spring chinook salmon which begin their journey to the ocean.
The young smolts were turned loose in Hells Canyon, the Pahsimeroi River near Challis and the Little Salmon near Riggins.
Next Monday, the company will begin transporting nearly two million steelhead smolts to the Snake and Pahsimeroi rivers.
Idaho Power biologist Paul Abbott says the crews are also spawning adult fish.
Two company hatcheries have a total steelhead egg production goal of more than two and a-half million fish.
