Just Three More Days of
Chinook Fishing on Snake River

by Henry Miller
Statesman Journal, October 28, 2010

ENTERPRISE - Fishing for Chinook on the Snake River closes at the end of legal fishing hours on Sunday. But you still can continue to catch and keep hatchery fin-clipped steelhead. Biologists with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife recommended, and the members of the Fish and Wildlife Commission approved, the first fall Chinook season in a long time because of a record run of the big fish crossing Lower Granite Dam on the Snake.

Chinook fishing opened Sept. 1. Angler checks by the staff with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game estimate that only 200 fish have been caught. "We were hoping the large return would translate into more anglers catching fish, but just being able to offer the opportunity to Oregon anglers was exciting", said Jeff Yanke, the department's district fish biologist in Enterprise.
