While many eyes in the Puget Sound region have been on Lake Washington, there is another sockeye return down south that is waxing the floors.
The Columbia River sockeye returns are still on record pace.
"Another day, another new record - 41,573 (for Tuesday, June 26)," Joe Hymer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist said of the 289,493 sockeye that have passed up the fish ladder at Bonneville Dam.
That surpassed the 38,756 sockeye counted at Bonneville on Monday, which also smashed the previous record of 30,690 fish on June 24, 2010.
A record 462,000 sockeye are forecasted to the mouth of the Columbia in 2012. Of those, 431,300 fish are expected to be headed to the Okanogan River.
