Lewiston Port Rebounding after Slow Yearby Associated PressKXLY.com, April 10, 2006 |
LEWISTON, ID -- The Port of Lewiston is enjoying a boost in business after last year's slowdown. Business at the port dropped last year when the Port of Portland, Oregon, stopped shipping directly to Japan. Japan is one of
the biggest customers of the Potlatch Corporation, which is one of the Port of Lewiston's biggest shippers.
Potlatch now delivers paperboard bound for Japan by truck to Washington state ports for shipment to Japan. New shipping options to China, Taiwan and the Mediterranean have helped boost business at the Port of Lewiston. Port officials say container shipments this year are almost double last year's figures at this time.
