Panel Sets Spring Chinook Seasons

by Staff
Lewiston Morning Tribune, March 24, 2009

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission today approved spring chinook salmon fishing seasons on several of Idaho's rivers starting late next month.

Salmon fishing will be allowed April 25 in the Clearwater River, its north and south forks, the lower Salmon River from Hammer Creek to Shorts Creek, the Little Salmon River and the Snake River between Dug Bar and Hells Canyon Dam. The Lochsa River will open May 23 to coincide with the opening of trout fishing there.

Anglers will be able to keep up to four hatchery chinook per day during the salmon season. Only two of the four can be adult salmon. For example, anglers could take home four salmon in a day if at least two of them were jacks. Jacks are salmon that return after spending only one year in the ocean.
