Thank you for your May 29 editorial concerning a federal judge's rejection of the Bush administration's so-called salmon restoration plan. After its previous plan was rejected by the same judge several years ago, the administration submitted a "No Salmon Left Behind" proposal - an accurate title for a plan that simply is inadequate. It probably would never have been enforced, given the administration's record of gutting environmental protections.

It is vital for people to realize that a thriving salmon and steelhead population is important to the economy of the Northwest, and it must be encouraged, restored and protected.
