Nez Perce Tribe Reopens Spring Chinook Treaty Fishery in Rapid River and Hells Canyon Areas by Staff Daily Fly, June 30, 2026

LAPWAI, ID -- The Nez Perce Tribe has announced the reopening of its 2026 Spring Chinook Treaty Fishery beginning at 12 p.m. Mountain Time (11 a.m. Pacific Time) on Wednesday, July 1.

The reopening allows Nez Perce tribal members to fish in designated waters of the Rapid River, Little Salmon River and the Snake River in Hells Canyon under treaty fishing regulations.

The fishery includes the reach of Rapid River from its mouth upstream to the Rapid River Trap, as well as the entire Little Salmon River from its mouth upstream. On the Snake River, the reopened area extends from the mouth of the Imnaha River upstream to the base of Hells Canyon Dam.

The Nez Perce Tribe reminds tribal members to carry their Tribal Enrollment Card while fishing and encourages everyone to help protect the area's natural resources by properly disposing of litter and keeping fishing areas clean.
