NW States Seek Permission to Kill Sea Lions

by Staff
KPTV, August 23, 2011

In this April 24, 2008 file photo, a sea lion eats a salmon in the Columbia River near Bonneville Dam in North Bonneville, Wash. (AP Photo/Don Ryan, File) Oregon is one of three states seeking permission to kill sea lions at Bonneville Dam.

Federal regulators will decide whether to use lethal force to remove California sea lions after reviewing applications from Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Environmental experts say the sea lions are responsible for the declining numbers in salmon and steelhead population.

Federal regulators will form a task force if officials decide that there is enough evidence to support the claims.
