More Gill-Netting on the Columbiaby Bill Monroe |
Oregon and Washington biologists met by telephone Wednesday and set another gill-net season in the Columbia River, Sunday night to Monday morning.
Nets will only be allowed from Warrior Rock on Sauvie Island upriver to Bonneville Dam.
Fall chinook counts at Bonneville are well ahead of predictions, the states said, issuing a new estimated run of 1,165,600 adults.
Sportfishing continues to shine in the same area.
A down side is the apparently delayed -- some say it's not coming -- coho run lagging; only about a quarter of the predicted number by this date at Bonneville.
The states will meet again Monday to consider more netting.
