Middle Snake

by unknown
The Idaho Statesman, May 12, 2004

Believe it or not, this section used to contain native salmon, steelhead, trout, whitefish and a few other species. Now the Middle Snake has more exotics than a New York nightclub. Thatīs because a series of dams and intensive agriculture has turned the Middle Snake into a warm, slow-moving, nutrient-laden river. Warmwater species such as bass, catfish, panfish, suckers, carp, chubs and pikeminnows now thrive in the Middle Snake, along with some trout and sturgeon. But the salmon and steelhead are, sadly, gone.
