F&G to Close Salmon Fishing on Little Salmon, Sections of Clearwater by Tuesday by Roger Phillips Idaho Statesman, June 30, 2008

Idaho Department of Fish and Game is closing salmon fishing on the Little Salmon River and sections of the Clearwater tributaries at the end of fishing hours Tuesday.

Hatchery managers have revised projections of chinook salmon returns to Idaho and are now expecting fewer fish will return, which is forcing F&G to close some rivers, including:

• Little Salmon River from its mouth upstream to the Highway 95 bridge near Smokey Boulder Creek.

• North Fork Clearwater River from the mouth upstream to Dworshak Dam.

• South Fork Clearwater River from mouth upstream to the confluence of American and Red rivers.

• Lochsa River from the mouth upstream to the Twin Bridges immediately upstream of the confluence of Colt Killed and Crooked Fork creeks.

F&G officials said the survival rate of adults during passage from Bonneville Dam to Lower Granite Dam is lower this year than in the past, so fewer chinook will return to Idaho hatcheries than previously predicted.
