The work is valued at $5 million to $10 million.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to replace internal turbine hub linkage components at the 810-MW Lower Granite Dam hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington. A site visit is scheduled May 13 with bids due June 9.
The Corps' Walla Walla District requested information last year on firms able to perform the work. It awarded a contract in 2013 to American Babbitt Bearing Inc. for turbine unit rehabilitation work at Lower Granite and the 402-MW Dworshak project on the North Fork Clearwater River in Idaho. The Portland District called for bids by May 15 to install new digital governors at Lower Granite and eight other Corps hydroelectric projects in the Portland and Walla Walla districts.
Lower Granite Unit 1 was blocked to be a fixed-blade runner after inspection discovered cracks in the eye end and blade lever link pins. The Corps seeks bids to replace internal hub linkage components with government-furnished parts. The turbine is a Kaplan-type manufactured by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton with a generator manufactured by Westinghouse. The work is valued at $5 million to $10 million.
