Columbia Generating Station
by Staff |
RICHLAND An electrical fault caused a fire at the Columbia Generating Station, forcing the nuclear plant near Richland to go off-line about 8 a.m. today. There was no threat to the public, and there were no injuries, according to Energy Northwest, which operates the plant.
The fire, which was extinguished in about 20 minutes, occurred in an electrical distribution area. An investigation is under way.
The plant will remain offline until the investigation is complete, repairs are completed and the plant can resume safe operations, Energy Northwest said.
Notifications to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Bonneville Power Administration and other agencies were made shortly after the fire was discovered.
