If the dams were removed, Lewiston would be required to reconfigure
how it acquires its water supply and processes wastewater.
LEWISTON -- The Lewiston City Council officially gave their support in favor of keeping the four lower Snake River Dams, while protecting salmon, in a resolution approved Monday night.
Council Member Rick Tousley was the only member of the body to vote against the resolution, calling the resolution an "unnecessary disbursement of city capital".
"This is simply saying the City of Lewiston has a lot riding on the (dam) removal, and so therefore we are going to stand up," said Council President Hannah Liedkie.
The resolution says that Lewiston residents are in agreement for protecting and preserving salmon, but they do not agree removal of the dams is necessary for their survival. The resolution also notes that, if the dams were removed, Lewiston would be required to reconfigure how it acquires its water supply and processes wastewater.
