Officials Project Largest
Fall Chinook Salmon Run in Years

by Associated Press
KOMO News, April 21, 2013

PORTLAND, Ore. - Fisheries officials are projecting the largest fall chinook salmon run since 2004 as part of the salmon seasons set for the Columbia River.

The summer run of chinook is projected to be about 73,000, with the season running from June 16 to June 30 between Astoria and the Bonneville Dam.

Chinook fishing is allowed from June 16 to July 31 from the dam to the Oregon-Washington border.

The fall season is Aug. 1 to Sept. 1, and restarts Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.

Fisheries officials are also projecting coho salmon numbers to be up from last year. Managers expect coho returns to the Columbia River to be significantly higher than the 2012 return of 135,000 fish.
