Judge Expresses Reservations
about Columbia, Snake River Plans

by Andrea Lutz
KPAX, June 8, 2009

The dorsal fin of a salmon breaks the surface of the Columbia River. The Flathead Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees has expressed concerns about the latest response from District Judge James Redden on future plans for Columbia and Snake River hydro operations.

In March, Redden said the plan was very close to being done, but now, he has expressed reservations about it and lists six additional actions he wants the government to consider implementing before he renders a decision in the case.

The Obama Administration is reviewing the biological opinion and will ultimately decide whether to support it, modify or reject it and start over.

Flathead Electric Trustees say support is important to prevent further delay. They are calling for strong advocacy from our Montana delegates in Washington, D.C.

The few who do not support the plan are focused on promoting dam removal
