Historic Amount of Chinook Return to Columbia, Snake Rivers by Staff KTVB, September 25, 2013

BOISE -- Fall Chinook salmon are making their way back into the Columbia River this year and crossing Bonneville Dam with more fish than the dam has seen since it was completed back in 1938.

According to the Northwest Power Conservation Council, the count of adult and jack fall Chinook is already more than 920,000 fish, and there is still about a month left in the run.

Now the run is expected to have more than one million fish. That would make for 400,000 more fish than the dam has seen in 75 years.

Alongside the fish returning to the lower Columbia River, there will also be wild and hatchery fish making their way back to release sites and tributaries in central Idaho on the Snake River.
