May 3 on Snake River

by Staff
Whitman County Gazette, April 21, 2022

Gulls in search of easy eating circle the turbulent water below Little Goose Dam on the Snake River as water runs over the spillway during a spring runoff. ALMOTA -- Spring Chinook fishing season opens May 3.

From the Texas Rapids boat launch to the fishing restriction boundary below Little Goose Dam, the season begins May 3 and is open only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

This zone includes both shores and the rock and concrete area between the juvenile bypass return pipe and Little Goose Dam.

From the southbound Highway 12 Bridge, near Pasco, upstream about 7 miles to the fishing restriction boundary below Ice Harbor Dam opens May 4. Only Wednesdays and Thursdays are open.

Salmon must be a minimum of 12 inches; the daily catch limit is 4.

Anglers must stop fishing for salmon when the adult limit has been retained. Adult Chinooks are 24 inches or longer.

Hatchery fish have their adipose fin-clipped.

Chinook salmon that may be retained must have a healed scar at the location of the missing fin.

Barbless hooks are required.
