Let's Get Fish BackLetter to the Editor, Idaho Statesman - August 30, 1999 |
The Aug. 13 front page article "Strong salmon runs would aid economy" is precise and to the point.
I'm glad to see that there are some people concerned about the future of Idaho. And about the smaller communities like Salmon and Challis.
We here in Central Idaho have been mainly an agriculturally based economy for many years, but all that changed dramatically when the mines opened. There were growing pains, but the infusion they brought was more than worth it. The mines have been good for us, but some day they will be gone.
To supplant that, a full salmon season could benefit the entire state. Not just the small towns. The ripple effect can be tremendous. Let's get the fish back in Idaho so we can fish in Idaho.
