Weekend Fishing Opportunities

Fall chinook is open from Buoy 10 upstream to the Oregon/Washington border above McNary Dam. Fall chinook fishing is excellent at Buoy 10, and catches from Tongue Point to Bonneville Dam are fair.

Summer steelhead angling is fair in the lower Columbia River.

Sturgeon retention is open from The Dalles Dam upstream to the John Day Dam.

Walleye angling is excellent in Troutdale.

Columbia River Fish Counts

Salmon, steelhead and shad

On the lower Columbia this past weekend there were 1, 438 salmonid boats and 87 Oregon bank anglers counted from Bonneville Dam downstream to Tongue Point on Aug. 24; and 1,297 Oregon boats at Buoy 10. Anglers had the best success at Buoy 10, where anglers averaged 3.26 chinook and 0.93 coho per boat. In the Portland to Longview area, boat anglers averaged 0.50 chinook and 0.03 steelhead steelhead per boat, while anglers fishing in the gorge averaged 0.41 chinook and 0.04 steelhead per boat. In Troutdale, boat anglers averaged 0.05 chinook and 0.02 steelhead per boat. Bank anglers fishing in the gorge averaged 0.03 steelhead per angler.

Portland to Westport Bank: Weekend checking no catch for 33 anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats: Weekend checking showed 117 fall chinook, 11 jack chinook and six steelhead kept, plus two adult chinook, one unclipped coho and two unclipped steelhead released for 240 boats (591 anglers).
