COLUMBIA ZONE FISHING

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

Current Columbia River regulations for sturgeon and spring Chinook can be found at the Sport Fishing Regulation Update page.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

Salmonid catch rates were fair during the final weekend of adult summer Chinook retention. Boat anglers had the best success in the Portland to Longview area where anglers averaged 0.34 Chinook caught per boat. In the gorge, boat anglers averaged 0.30 Chinook caught per boat, while anglers in Troutdale averaged 0.13 Chinook caught per boat. In the estuary, boat anglers averaged 0.14 Chinook, 1.07 steelhead and 0.07 sockeye caught per boat. Bank anglers had the best success in the gorge where anglers averaged 0.06 Chinook caught per angler. In the estuary, bank anglers averaged 0.17 steelhead caught per angler, while anglers fishing the Portland to Longview area averaged 0.03 steelhead caught per angler. On Saturday's (6/29) flight, 490 salmonid boats, seven shad boats, 234 Oregon salmonid bank anglers and 22 Oregon shad bank anglers were counted.

Gorge Bank:

Weekend checking showed two adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook and one sockeye kept for 35 salmonid anglers; and 10 shad kept for nine anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed five adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus two unclipped adult Chinook released for 23 boats (76 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed five adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook and two adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook kept, plus three unclipped adult Chinook and one unclipped jack Chinook released for 62 boats (137 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank:

Weekend checking showed two adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept for 64 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed four adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus six unclipped adult Chinook and two unclipped jack Chinook released for 29 boats (62 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed one adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook and one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus two unclipped steelhead released for 18 bank anglers.

Estuary Boats (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed nine adipose fin-clipped steelhead and one sockeye kept, plus two unclipped adult Chinook and six unclipped steelhead released for 14 boats (44 anglers).

Bonneville Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for two salmonid anglers; and no catch for three shad anglers.

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed one adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept for 22 bank anglers.

John Day Pool:

Weekly checking showed one adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus two unclipped adult Chinook released for 21 bank anglers; and no catch for two boats (six anglers).
