Judge Considering Fines
by Associated Press

TACOMA, Wash. -- A federal judge is considering fines against a Longshore union for their tactics in a Longview labor dispute.
The National Labor Relations Board has asked court to fine the International Longshore and Warehouse Union more than $290,000. The number includes damages and expenses from protests earlier this month.
U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton has already found the union in contempt. Federal officials have also asked Leighton to consider additional fines if the union violates his restraining order in the future.
Union protesters believe they have the right to work at a new grain terminal at the Port of Longview that is currently being staffed by workers from a different union.
