Really Early Sockeye Counted at Bonneville
Dam on the Columbia River this Week

by Mark Yuasa
Seattle Times, February 5, 2015

Adult Sockeye Salmon leaps upstream State Fish and Wildlife biologist Joe Hymer reported a chrome bright, beautiful sockeye was counted at Bonneville Dam on Tuesday (Feb. 3).

He reported this is either the third or fourth year in a row for this to occur, when a sockeye arrived before any spring chinook had made their way up the fish ladder at Bonneville.

The sockeye measured 20 inches long and was counted at 6:30 pm. on Tuesday.

It shouldn't be much longer before the spring chinook arrive in what is expected to be a rather large run.
