Repairs Delay Opening of Little Goose Dam Lock by Staff Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, March 26, 2014

STARBUCK -- The navigation lock at Little Goose Dam is expected to remain closed through April to repair problems uncovered during a recent inspection.

The lock was scheduled to reopen this month after it was closed March 1 for annual maintenance.

But engineers detected small cracks forming in a critical part of the structure and further tests showed the problem requires the lock remain closed until repairs are completed.

Planners with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimate the lock may be returned to service by May 1.
