League of Women Voters Hosts Presentation on Snake River Salmon and Dam Challenges by Cooper McCauley Pullman Radio, March 24, 2026

The League of Women Voters Moscow will host a Speaker Series presentation on Wednesday, March 25, at 12:00 pm in the Arts Workshop at the 1912 Center.

Jerry McGehee and Fred Mensik will present "What Spill Advocates Want You to Believe," offering a perspective on Snake River salmon management.

McGehee retired from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game after 36 years in the Fish Hatcheries Division and now volunteers as an educator with Citizens for the Preservation of Fish and Dams. He will discuss vital health concerns for Idaho juvenile salmon and steelhead during their migration to the ocean.

Mensik holds degrees in Forestry and Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and spent 19 years at Lower Granite Dam, including 15 years running the Smolt Monitoring Program. He is the author of "Whistling Past the Tombstones," a history of fish declines in Idaho, and currently serves as president of Citizens for the Preservation of Fish and Dams. He will address the causes of fish population decline and make the case that fish and dams can coexist with proper management.
