Coast Guard to Host Terrorist, Environmental Response Drill by Staff KATU.com, March 22, 2006

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Coast Guard will host a full-scale terrorism and environmental response drill on Wednesday and Thursday.

The drill will be conducted at Coast Guard Sector Portland, at Basin Avenue.

The drill is a government led, multi-agency program designed to exercise and evaluate the Northwest Area Contingency Plan and the Area Maritime Security Plan.

It will also test specific vessel and facility security response plans and federal, state, and local security response plans.

The drill will focus on suspected terrorism and deployment of oil spill recovery equipment.

The simulated oil spill will originate at the Conoco Phillips Facility on the Willamette River in Portland. It will flow into the Columbia River.
