State Officials Close Columbia River to All Salmon Fishing by Staff KOMO News, September 13, 2018

PORTLAND, Ore. - State officials have closed the Columbia River to all salmon fishing because salmon returns are well below preseason predictions.

The closure for fishing for salmon went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and is in effect from the mouth of the river at Buoy 10 to the Highway 395 Bridge near Pasco, Washington.

According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, 105,795 adult fall Chinook passed Bonneville Dam as of Sept. 10. That's 75 percent of expectations, it said.

If fishing for salmon is left open, officials said the number of fish permitted to be harvested could exceed the allowable limit.

Steelhead fishing closed Aug. 27 on the Columbia River.
