Spring Chinook Fishery Closingby StaffEast Oregonian, June 19, 2008 |
ENTERPRISE - Oregon and Idaho fishery managers announced that the spring chinook fishery on the Salmon River will close effective at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, June 21.
The spring chinook season opened on April 26 and was tentatively scheduled to go as late as July 20. However, a recent creel study by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game showed that anglers had caught enough fish to exceed allowable impact, prompting officials to announce the closure.
The decision to close the chinook fishery to sport fishing was made by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Idaho Fish and Game, who co-manage the fishery on the Snake River.
Under permanent regulations, the Snake River remains open for trout, and will open for adipose fin-clipped summer steelhead on September 1.
