Bumbling with Salmon

by Brady Bennon
The Oregonian, May 19, 2008

Oops! So, it turns out our very own federal and state government "scientists" are the likely culprits in the sea lion deaths at Bonneville Dam ("Heatstroke killed trapped sea lions," May 15).

It's not surprising, really, given that the agencies in charge of trapping the sea lions are the same bumbling agencies in charge of Columbia and Snake River salmon restoration.

They continue to tell us that Snake River dam removal is not necessary to restore salmon, yet the salmon numbers continue to fall, fishing fleets are dry-docked, and our taxes are used to bail out the communities that rely on salmon for business.

Where is the oversight?
