Boost Renewable Energyby Tam MooreCapital Press, August 20, 2004 |
The American Farm Bureau Federation, and state Farm Bureaus, are boosting federal and state laws that encourage alternate energy sources. Farm Bureau last week issued an eight-page update on the trend toward government renewable energy standards. It’s on the Internet at www.harvestcleanenergy.org.
Among objectives of the program are promotion of ethanol as a vehicle fuel, electricity rates that give credit for renewable energy generation, and wind generation of electricity.
A Minnesota law that required 10 percent of vehicle fuel sold in that state is credited with boosting ethanol production from corn and soybeans. Farm Bureau did not have information comparing energy costs for producing the biofuel with the energy produced.
