U.S. Seeks Boat Barrier for 810-MW Lower Monumental Hydro Project by Staff HydroWorld, June 16, 2015

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to construct a floating boat barrier across the Snake River above the 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam hydroelectric project in Washington. A site visit is scheduled June 17 with bids due June 30.

The Corps' Walla Walla District took bids June 2 for generator rewinds and turbine cavitation repairs at Lower Monumental. It took bids last year to refurbish thrust bearing shoes at Lower Monumental and 603-MW Ice Harbor dams. The Portland District called for bids by May 15 to install digital governors at Lower Monumental and eight other hydro projects.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, the Walla Walla District now seeks bids to construct a floating barrier system across the Lower Monumental forebay to restrain vessels that approach the spillway. It is to span 1,750 feet across the river about 700 feet upstream of the powerhouse and spillway.
