BPA will Buy 90 Megawatts of Wind Powerby Michelle Cole, Oregonian staffThe Oregonian, December 18, 2001 |
The Bonneville Power Administration says it will buy about 90 megawatts of wind-generated electricity from the Stateline Wind Project near Walla Walla.
The BPA negotiated the deal through PacifiCorp Power Marketing, a subsidiary of ScottishPower. The purchase represents enough electricity to serve about 18,000 Northwest homes and doubles the amount of electricity the BPA purchases from wind generation projects.
The federal agency supplies about half the electricity used in the Northwest. The agency announced last summer that it was negotiating for up to 830 additional megawatts of wind power, potentially making it one of the largest suppliers of wind power in the nation. -- Michelle Cole
