Sockeye Arrive in Stanley Basin
by Eric BarkerLewiston Tribune, July 26, 2010 |
The front guard of the Snake River sockeye run has started arriving in Idaho's Stanley Basin.
The first of the critically endangered fish was trapped on Saturday at the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery. Seven more were trapped today, four at the hatchery and three in Redfish Lake Creek.
Meanwhile the sockeye run as measured at Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River 35 miles west of Lewiston is approaching 2,000. Through Sunday, 1,925 sockeye were counted there. That is a new record since the dam was built.
