Spring Chinook Season to Start April 24

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has approved a plan to open the spring chinook salmon harvest on the Clearwater, Lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers late next month.

Anglers will also be allowed to catch these fish on the upper end of the Snake River in Hells Canyon starting April 24.

Fisheries managers in Idaho predict this year that 180,000 spring chinook will swim past Lower Granite Dam about 35 miles west of Lewiston. Officials say about 25,000 of the fish will be wild chinook.

Fish and Game commissioners also approved a plan Thursday to increase steelhead limits on the Salmon River drainage and doubled the amount of allowed catches during the spring season to 80.
