Water Problem Forces Fish Shiftby Eric BarkerLewiston Tribune, August 24, 2012 |
Young chinook salmon are being moved to Dworshak fish hatchery
after failure of part of Clearwater hatchery's water system
Juvenile chinook salmon from Clearwater Hatchery will spend the rest of their freshwater lives across the river at Dworshak National Fish Hatchery following a problem with the water delivery system from Dworshak Dam.
Clearwater Hatchery manager Jerry McGehee said a cable holding an intake screen that is part of an adjustable water supply system attached to the dam snapped. The falling screen caused a 265-foot adjustable pipe to detach from a pipe that runs through the dam. While water flow was not interrupted, it is now unscreened and must be cut off before repairs can be made.
