(Credit: Courtney Flatt / NWPB) On Sept. 7, I went down to one of my former favorite swimming places in the 31 years I have lived in Pullman, and am still appalled how much toxic algae blooms are at the Wawaiwai County Park pond and near the Granite Point on the Lower Granite Dam reservoir. This is because of the hot stagnant water that sits in the reservoir in recent 90-to-100-degree temperatures.

Humans, animals and any other living thing are advised not to go into the water. This is very sad as that water, albeit it is a reservoir, belongs to all of us and should be able to be enjoyed by those who like to recreate on the water. This is now not possible.

Since this water belongs to all of us why can't the Army Corps of Engineers or Whitman County figure out how to get rid of this toxic algae so we can use it?
